"I totally agree that carrying
babies around is a good thing. I lived for 2 years in Tanzania and there
the women carry their babies absolutely everywhere, even when they work on
the fields or go the doctor or cook in the kitchen. Typically they do that
until the baby reaches the age of 1 1/2 or even 2 years. They also
breast-feed their babies while having the baby in the carrying cloth, no
matter where they are or what they are doing. One thing I always wondered about is why (on average) Tanzanian babies and children cry and scream much less than many young European kids tend to do. Being integrated into the "adult" life might be one factor, being exposed to much less noise, toys, etc. might be another." --Dr Matthias Nicola |
